How Let’s Get Moving Grew to 80 Locations with SmartMoving

RESULTS WITH SMARTMOVING

80 locations  |  $60M in revenue |  15-25% profit margin

When Tiam Behdarvandan started his first location in Kingston, Canada, he never imagined he would one day be leading a moving enterprise of 80 locations. Back in 2010, the founder and CEO of Let’s Get Moving started the company with little more than a vision and a thirst for knowledge.

“I was learning how to open a business. I couldn't find jobs, I couldn't find customers, I didn't know how to advertise. I was on Google, literally searching how to grow a moving company. I was starting from scratch, and I was willing to learn everything it took,” recalls Tiam.

Today, he and the team generate $25M in revenue with up to 25% margin on corporate locations and $500K-$1.5M per franchise, with a minimum of 15% profit after royalties.

And one of the biggest lessons he’s learned is that you can’t do it alone.

“SmartMoving allows us to run our entire moving company on one platform. It's so smart,  with so many integrations that allow us to connect with other programs that make it a lot easier to run a big business efficiently,” says Tiam.

With SmartMoving powering the backend, Tiam is free to continue learning, experimenting, and growing—all while keeping the business healthy, strong, and profitable.

Franchising the business model

Let’s Get Moving’s network now includes 60 locations in Canada and 20 US locations opening this year. But it didn’t happen overnight.

In the beginning, Tiam relied on his community, including moving business expert Louis Massaro, to help him move from vision to action. With strong sales training and mentorship, Tiam was able to grow Let's Get Moving to over 70 trucks at its peak.

The business exploded during the pandemic, doing record numbers and moving a huge volume of customers. But when the market cooled, Tiam was left with too many trucks and not enough business.

To adapt, he decided to franchise the Let's Get Moving brand. And the rest, as they say, is history.

“We sold out in Canada within the first nine months that we started franchising,” says Tiam.

“It made a lot of sense because I didn't have the investment to grow many locations, but I had the systems and processes. Everything was centralized and I knew I could provide a great service to people,” says Tiam.

The company is branded as “Let’s Get Moving” in Canada and “Let’s Move” in the US. Tiam’s expansion into the US also led him to adopt additional strategies, like increasing his investment in SEO and working with brokers and lead providers to grow lead volume at each location.

With an influx of new leads and franchisees, he knew he’d need a sales platform capable of keeping up with Let’s Get Moving’s rapid transformation into a large, multi-location operation.

Using an all-in-one system to grow beyond borders

In the early days, Tiam used Infusionsoft (now Keap) to manage leads. But as the speed of growth picked up, he needed a system that would not only automate his sales process, but provide best-in-class dispatching, scheduling, and operations.

Tiam knew from his previous work with Louis Massaro that SmartMoving had been purpose-built for moving companies, with direct input from entrepreneurs like him.

“SmartMoving allows us to focus on all the things it takes to really be successful in this business and not just be some guy who has a truck and wants to do some side jobs. It enables companies to grow, become bigger, and even expand into other countries. You can’t say that about too many other CRMs.”

By moving from Infusionsoft to a dedicated all-in-one platform for movers, Tiam was able to replicate his sales success across locations.

Scaling sales across multiple locations

With the powerful sales features inside SmartMoving, Let’s Get Moving’s franchises don't have to worry about lead generation. But why stop there?

"SmartMoving is really good at the sales aspect, which is really important. Without sales, you have no business. You don't need trucks without sales."

Tiam and the corporate leadership team use SmartMoving to efficiently manage leads, bookings, and revenue across corporate and franchise locations.

With the Gravity Forms integration in place, all website submissions land directly in the CRM where Tiam and the team can easily distribute and track opportunities.

And since SmartMoving compiles revenue from all locations, it’s easy for them to bill for royalties each month.

Embracing automation and integration

Let's Get Moving handles all the backend operations—calls, customer service, marketing, SEO—centrally from one location to support their franchisees.

The team uses a central call center for both corporate and franchise locations. And with SmartMoving, they can easily dispatch trucks, see calendars, and integrate with tools like Quickbooks, Mailchimp and Gravity Forms.

The result is better operations at every level.

"SmartMoving definitely makes it possible—otherwise, there’d be a lot of backend work."

This "Uber-style" franchise model allows them to rapidly scale and open new franchise locations without the franchisees having to build out all the backend infrastructure themselves.

Easy franchise-wide reporting

As soon as Tiam logs in every morning, he goes straight into the calendar section. “That's my favorite part. It gives me the bigger picture. What I like to see is the total number of jobs for each location and the calendar allows me to see that really quickly.”

“I go to the calendar, choose a branch, and see how many jobs they’ve booked this month compared to past months,” says Tiam.

Tiam is currently focused on expanding Let’s Move’s US branches. He uses the calendar to check how many jobs each branch books in a month and compares each branch’s progress across multiple months.

His team pulls relevant reports from SmartMoving and uses them to prepare a summary report that gives Tiam the helicopter view of how each department is performing.

Unlocking scalable growth with SmartMoving

Tiam thought it would take years for Let’s Get Moving to franchise in Canada, but he knocked that goal out of the park within a year. Since then, he’s adopted a no-limits vision when it comes to what’s possible for the company.

“Being a visionary has no limits with SmartMoving. Anything we want to do is possible.”

So, what’s next? Tiam and the team at Let’s Get Moving are aiming to boost revenue on corporate locations by 20-30% this year and open another 50 to 75 new franchise locations.

By staying open to new approaches and scaling the business in ways he didn't initially expect, Tiam’s been able to seize opportunities as they come. And with the right tools and systems, he’s been able to make the most of each and every one.
